Lesson 35:Stop thief!
First listen and then answer the question.
How did Roy stop the thieves?
Roy Trenton used to drive a taxi. A short while ago, however, he became a bus driver and he has not regretted it. He is finding his new work far more exciting. When he was driving along Catford Street recently, he saw two thieves rush out of a shop and run towards a waiting car. One of them was carrying a bag full of money. Roy acted quickly and drove the bus straight at the thieves. The one with the money got such a fright that he dropped the bag. As the thieves were trying to get away in their car, Roy drove his bus into the back of it. While the battered car was moving away, Roy stopped his bus and telephoned the police. The thieves' car was badly damaged and easy to recognize. Shortly afterwards, the police stopped the car and both men were arrested.

1. regret
I regret telling a lie to my parents.= I regret that I told a lie to my parents.
I regretted having had the snowball fights. I got hurt all over.
I regret to inform you that you are fired.
There are no regrets in true love.
A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.
2. far
adv.
Houses are far more expensive than before.
She sings far better than that so?鄄called “Super Voice”.
★ 修饰形容词、 副词比较级的还有: a lot / much / a great deal / a little / a bit / slightly
3. straight
adj.

adv.

一般由 so/such...that... 以至于) 引导, 并且可以省略为so, and so, 或and。
He became so excited that he couldn’t speak.
Tommy was having great difficulty getting his bike out, and so I had to move my bike first to let him out.
比较: so...that 与such...that
such + a/an + 形容词+名词=so+形容词+a/an+名词。
Paris is such a romantic city that we all admire it.
Paris is so romantic a city that we all admire it.
They are such precious stones that the police are keeping guard at every entrance.
The lava is such hot liquid rock that it melts everything it touches.
如名词前有many, much, little, few 修饰, 则常用so...that
I have had so many falls that I hurt all over.
I had so little money on me that I didn’t buy anything.
1. He is finding his new work far more exciting.
He is finding this trip very exciting.
I’m finding the internet far more interesting.
He found Harry’s homework machine amazing.
2. When he was driving along Catford Street recently, he saw two thieves rush out of a shop and run towards a waiting car.
I saw Zorro kill the bad guy.
I saw Zorro fighting with the bad guy.
I heard someone say that.
I heard someone crying in the dark.
3. The one with the money got such a fright that he dropped the bag.
(2) such...that... such是形容词, 后面接名词(such + 形容词 + 名词 + that ); 而so...that...
It is such a big place that we can build a house here.
It is so big a place that we can build a house here.
